SPIC
Chairman elected FICCI President
SPIC Chairman Dr A C Muthiah was unanimously elected
President of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce
and Industry (FICCI) in October 2002. He will take over
from R S Lodha as the 76th President of India's oldest
chamber of commerce at the end of its 75th Annual Session
in December 2002.

SPIC announces
debt reduction and restructuring
SPIC Ltd today announced a net loss of Rs 215 crore
for FY 2001-02. The results reflect the continuing downtrend
in the fertilizer sector, which accounts for 91% of
SPIC's revenue. This resulted in SPIC recording a drop
of 25% in revenue of Rs 1722 crore (Rs 2294 crore)

Debt restructuring
package for SPIC
SPIC Ltd announced its new debt restructuring package
in an agreement with the consortium of banks led by
Indian Bank. The restructuring package, among other
things, provides for the reduction in the interest spread
by about 6% effective 1 October 2001.
